Discover How Casper Processes Licensing Requests
The client side of Casper is called the Casper Wizard. It is bundled with your CrypKey-protected software and it runs on your customers' computers. When a software license is required, Casper Wizard asks your customer to send a request to Casper. Casper responds by generating a Site Key. Casper Wizard then presents a series of windows that guide users through the available options. The Casper Wizard interface is configurable if you call on it using CrypKey SDK. If you're using CrypKey Instant, the Wizard is standardized to work with Casper e-Register. For the Casper eCommerce option, the Casper Wizard changes to contain the credit card information, product code, and price.
The Casper server receives software license requests via the Internet or e-mail messages that are transmitted by the client program. Internet messages transmit in real time, usually within 15 seconds. E-mail messages are also transferred quickly, however, their delivery is subject to the transmission speed of the e-mail server. Internet requests are not configurable; they happen automatically when the request is made. E-mail requests are checked at an interval that you specify in CasperWeb; the smallest interval is once per minute.
Casper provides three options for communicating licensing information:
- Direct Internet
The Casper client sends authorization requests directly to Casper. Casper processes an authorization request and immediately sends the authorization or error message to the customer. If the process is successful, the authorization is automatically entered into the program and the software is enabled.
- Automatic E-mail
The customer sends an authorization request to Casper via e-mail. Casper then processes the information and automatically replies with an e-mail that contains the authorization. The customer manually enters the Site Key.
- Manual E-mail
The customer sends the authorization request manually via e-mail. Casper then processes the information and automatically replies. This method is used only if a customer has an unusual network configuration that prohibits the automatic send function.

NEW — Casper Enhancements
Casper is CrypKey's innovative e-commerce copy protection solution. We're excited to announce the many new enhancements that we've made to build 227, including:
- HTML Messages: Reply messages from Casper can now be in HTML format.
- Improved E-mail Transmission: E-mail transmission is now asynchronous. This means that Casper immediately responds to an authorization request and processes e-mail faster than ever.
- Automatic Deletion of E-mail for Problematic Requests: E-mail messages that indicate problems with e-mail license requests are automatically deleted. This is because a failed message triggers Casper to attempt the authorization over and over again.
- Site Key Generator Button: The Site Key Generator button on the Add New Customer page now only appears operational when a serial number is available.

Which CrypKey Product is Right For You?
So, you've determined that you must incorporate a copy protection solution into your software application. Now what? Choosing the right product that appropriately fits your needs can be challenging and confusing.
At CrypKey, we're dedicated to supporting our customers from introduction, to implementation, to deployment, to ongoing support. Our website is chock full of information and tools to help you make informed decisions when purchasing our products. And, if after reviewing the literature you're still not sure which option to choose, our team of friendly and dedicated technical support personnel are standing by to answer your questions and guide you through the process - every step of the way.
One key similarity of CrypKey Instant and CrypKey SDK is that CrypKey Stealth technology can be used in both applications. The following describes the fundamental differences between the two product versions, and also discusses which product will best suit your needs.
- CrypKey Instant Offers Basic Protection - If you're looking for a simple "Run/Don't Run" check, and perhaps you'd like to offer a "Ready-To-Try" program on your website, CrypKey Instant is what you need. The primary advantage of CrypKey Instant is that it's quick to implement. The protection process takes only minutes and there is no need to recompile the executable. CrypKey Instant takes care of the interface, logic, and control. All you have to do is run it on your software and it outputs a protected executable with automatic installation. You are not required to write code or make calls to CrypKey's libraries, and there is no need to access the source code. You can protect virtually any executable and control its use through the CrypKey Site Key Generator.
- SDK Provides Advanced Control - If you require more control and integration of the copy protection solution in the inner workings of your program, CrypKey SDK is the right choice. The primary advantage of CrypKey SDK is its flexibility. CrypKey SDK lets you control what CrypKey does and when it does it, based on your program requirements. For example, you need CrypKey SDK if you want to meter the use of a calculation within the application. Or you may want to make the security interface seamlessly consistent with the rest of your program. If you expect your software to be targeted by hackers, you'll want to employ all of the security functions that CrypKey offers. CrypKey Instant and CrypKey SDK include CrypKey Stealth.
Still have questions about CrypKey Instant and CrypKey SDK? No problem! We invite you to browse our newly expanded FAQs page at www.crypkey.com/faq.asp.

CrypKey Helps You Make the Right Choice
CrypKey understands that you want a transparent and dependable copy protection and licensing control solution that is easy to manage. You've worked hard to develop a valuable product, and you want to protect your investment without incurring additional support and administrative headaches.
Adding a copy protection and license control application to your product introduces new costs in the form of administration, development, and support. The greater the degree of security, the greater your costs. The technology required to provide software security on the end user system can be restricted by corporate desktop or network policy. Deciding how much security is enough and determining the best process to implement a copy-protection application can be risky and confusing.
Using CrypKey protection in its most secure configuration generally requires that users have local administrative access to their computers during installation. If you choose to use CrypKey's optional Stealth component, it may not seamlessly integrate with the third-party components that your application references. In this scenario, you and your product engineers will work closely with us to resolve unforeseen technical issues. Through our ongoing diligence and years of refining our application solutions, we've created flexible products that strike a good balance between cost, security, dependability, and manageability.
CrypKey recognizes that one size does not fit all. We're committed to informing you about all options, and we make recommendations about the best course of action to suit your requirements. In applications where implementing a full-security configuration is not practical or cost effective for an organization, we offer customized low- and mid-level security system solutions.
Please contact us to discuss your concerns and requirements. Together we'll find a solution that's right for you.

Sunset on CrypKey 5.7 is Coming Soon
With the pending release of CrypKey 7, we will no longer support version 5.7. This change will be effective October 1, 2006. To ensure a smooth transition of your protected application(s), please contact technical support to discuss an implementation strategy that's best for you. We also advise customers to download the new CrypKey 7 (when available) instead of attempting to upgrade version 5.7, due to the vast changes in the technologies between versions.
