Nov. 4, 2005 - CrypKey (Canada) Inc., a leading
global provider of software copy protection and license
management solutions, is pleased to announce the launch
of what it believes is one of the only available “true
encryption” solutions to date of .NET software.
The company has launched CrypKey 6.5 with true encryption
of .NET software, rather than the generally prevailing
obfuscation methods that attempt to confuse hackers by
disguising code but which can be significantly easier
to circumvent.
“Some companies claiming to offer .NET protection
are not necessarily able to actually provide it,”
notes CrypKey CEO Jim McCartney. “Some are using
obfuscation – making code more confusing to prevent
reverse engineering—as a means to deter hackers;
however, encryption is a much stronger method of protecting

As we draw closer to the release of version 7.0 with
Enterprise Network Licensing, I wish to apologize for
delays and thank you for your patience.
We believe that what we are creating will be worth the
wait. The functionality of Enterprise Network Licensing
is usually only found in much more expensive licensing
systems.
We are working hard to maintain the exquisite simplicity
of use found in the CrypKey licensing system. As such,
we are putting extra time into this effort because we
strongly believe in making software that is easy to use—our
primary goal.
We will continue to update you as we progress into this
exciting new era of CrypKey software license management.

CrypKey Enterprise Networking: Improvements
from 6.0 to 7.0
CrypKey 7.0, our latest product development, will offer many
exciting new features including “Enterprise Network Licensing.”
With CrypKey 6.0, Client Driven Networking Licensing (CDNL)
allows the user to put the license on a server but clients are
responsible for tracking the number of seats open using a file-based
form of communication.
CrypKey Enterprise Network Licensing instead incorporates True
Client-Server Network Licensing (TCSNL) to control software
licenses. CrypKey 7.0 improves networking in the following ways:
The client no longer needs to know where
the license files exist on the network. This removes an extra
configuration step for every end-user, as each end-user has
to obtain this information.
The client is not limited to using one server
to obtain a license. Alternate servers can be set up for use
in the event a server goes down or needs servicing. Alternate
servers can also be set up to manage server loads.
Network protocol communication is faster
than file-based communication. As a result, many clients wanting
to check the license at the same time (such as in a classroom
start-up situation) will receive notification within seconds.
Server security is tighter and eliminates
the possibility of the following occurring:
- a client accidentally deleting the license;
- a breach of the security server; or
- a contradiction in typical security policies.
The server administrator will spend less
time sharing the directory with desired client. The administrator
can easily control which domains, computers or users can or
cannot access the license.
