Customer Profile: BioVisual Technologies
BioVisual Technologies, a leading provider of software, diagnostic imaging equipment, and expertise to assist medical practitioners with diagnostic ultrasound, as well as the diagnosis and treatment of wounds and other skin lesions, has been a satisfied CrypKey customer for more than two years.
In 2005, BioVisual Technologies purchased CrypKey Instant to protect PictZar®, its chronic wound and skin lesion monitoring software, from reverse engineering and unauthorized use. By embedding the CrypKey function calls into the software's source code, PictZar® now requires a site key authorization from BioVisual Technologies before it can be used. CrypKey Instant has also helped improve PictZar® sales by enabling BioVisual Technologies to offer prospective customers a secure, 30-day trial version of the software.
After realizing the benefits of CrypKey Instant, BioVisual Technologies purchased CrypKey DLM in March of 2006 to protect the intellectual property of Dr. Martin Wendelken , the company's founder. CrypKey DLM enables Dr. Wendelken to protect his podiatric sonography instructional videos (.MPEG files) from being copied and viewed without his authorization. Recipients of Dr. Wendelken 's files now require an authorization code to view the protected videos. The CrypKey DLM solution enables Dr. Wendelken to customize the video package he distributes to each customer by simply turning selected protected video files “on or off”. Biovisual Technologies' instructional videos are now protected from unauthorized use not only by students, but also by competing companies.
“Our unique methods and intellectual properties remain under our control while at the same time we issue licenses to our customers who then can freely use these educational tools”, says Dr. Wendelken. “The Crypkey Instant and Crypkey DLM protection allows our company to distribute these intellectual products which, we have invested a great deal of time and energy to create and produce…. without fear.”

Myth: Inexpensive Software Does Not Get Copied
Why protect your software?
If developers make software cheaper, people wouldn't copy it and you would sell more copies of your product, right? Unfortunately, it's not that simple.
Developing a software product requires a significant investment of expertise, time, and money - and this cycle of investment never ends. To succeed in tomorrow's market, developers must invest today and be proactive about protecting their software.
The belief that people do not copy inexpensive software is false. You don't need to look far or dig deep to realize that many commonly-pirated software programs are relatively inexpensive to purchase.

Industry News: Dell Brings XP Back in Response to Customer Demand
Barry Levine's April 2007 story on NewsFactor.com echoes on the sentiments of many dissatisfied and frustrated PC users who've made the leap to Microsoft's new operating system (OS): Vista is still a young OS and more time is need to make the transition from XP.
Following the overwhelming demand expressed by customers through Dell's IdeaStorm website, the company is bringing back Windows XP Home and Professional for several desktop and notebook PCs. After receiving more than 11,000 votes not to eliminate XP, Dell said on its website, “ We heard you loud and clear on bringing the Windows XP option back to our Dell consumer PC offerings.”
The reinstitution of XP as an OS option applies to small business computers only. The company does not intend to provide XP for home users as it believes that the preference and demand by consumers in this category, “…is for the 'latest and greatest' technology, which includes Windows Vista”.
