CrypKey Named in Nationwide Advanced Security
Report
CrypKey (Canada) Inc. participated in a
2003 study by Canadian Advanced Technology Alliance (CATA), Canada's
leading entrepreneurial technology alliance.
The study,
entitled The Canadian Advanced Security Report, is now published and
available from CATA. The report is an assessment of the Canadian
advanced security industry, supported by the Government of Canada,
Government of Quebec, trade associations CANASA and CIPS, and key
private sector companies including Bell, LGS and BMO Financial
Group. The report also provides detailed case studies of
manufacturers, systems integrators and specialized service
providers.
CrypKey is listed in the CATA directory of more
than 700 advanced security firms at http://www.sciencetech.com/showcases.asp.
CrypKey also participated in the CATA's 2004 Canada-wide survey.
CATA's mission is to help its members be globally competitive
through the promotion of strategic partnerships, technological
innovation and entrepreneurial values.

Software Debuggers: Gain or Bane?
In this age of advanced hacking, allowing your
program to be debugged by anyone is very similar to allowing your
program to be copied…by anyone at all.
Unfortunately, the
useful intentions of the debugger have been subverted to the
hacker's main tool of the trade. What many unsuspecting software
developers don't realize is that while a debugger gives well-meaning
comrades useful problem solving information, it also gives hackers
detailed information about the inner workings of the software. This
information can be used to easily pirate trade secrets and
circumvent copy protection.
If your software is shipped
without an anti-debugging mechanism, anyone can debug it and look
deep inside it. To combat this problem, CrypKey recommends the
following:
1. Use software protection that prevents
debugging. CrypKey offers a range of protection solutions that
thwart debuggers' usage of your software.
2. Give
"debuggable" versions of your software to trusted parties only.
CrypKey can provide a way to turn off the anti-debugging mechanism
but suggests using this option with caution.
