Integrating Casper eRegister with Existing Systems
While Casper eCommerce and Casper eRegister are reliable, standalone solutions, we recognize that they may not suit everyone's requirements. For customers with unique needs, there are ways to integrate Casper eRegister into your organization's total solution. CrypKey appreciates customer feedback and we use this information to develop ongoing Casper enhancements.
The following list includes some custom, integrated Casper solutions that we've developed as a result of customer needs:
- Integrating Casper with an Existing eCommerce System —The customer does not want to implement or support a secondary eCommerce system to manage software sales. This customer requires a solution that works with the current system.
- Third-party eCommerce Website Hosting —The customer's hosting company may not be willing to install or support Casper on the host server.
- Web Server Running on a Non-Windows Platform — Casper does not operate on a non-windows platform.
Casper cannot seamlessly install and process license requests in any of the previously mentioned scenarios. Instead, intervention and a custom solution are required to ensure that the components can properly communicate.
Before reviewing the options available for integrating Casper eRegister into your organization, an overview of how Casper eRegister works is illustrated here.
Casper eRegister Overview

In a typical Casper eRegister implementation, your application is protected using CrypKey Instant or SDK, which include the CasperWizard GUI. If there is no license present when your application runs, the CasperWizard GUI launches an interface that allows the end user to enter a pre-authorized serial number. The serial number, which corresponds to one that you have configured on the Casper server, is supplied to the end user at point of sale. When the end user enters the serial number, the CasperWizard GUI sends it to the Casper server for verification. If the verification process is successful, the CasperWizard GUI sends a site key back to the end user application for authorization. The application processes the key and activates the end user's license.
Integrating Casper eRegister with an Existing eCommerce System
In this scenario, you require a software licensing system that easily integrates with the existing eCommerce application. One possibility is to introduce Casper by configuring the existing system to directly communicate with the Casper database. Alternatively, you could directly import Casper serial numbers into a custom customer field in the database that is used by your eCommerce system. Either way, the goal is to get your eCommerce system to display the serial number on the web page that confirms your user's successfully posted transaction. When end user installs the software and enters the serial number into the application, the Casper eRegister server automatically initializes the license.
Third-party eCommerce Website Hosting
Similar to the previous solution, you provide your host provider with a list of serial numbers that can be distributed to customers upon their software purchase. An automated communication mechanism can be established to send and retrieve data between the eCommerce system and Casper eRegister.
Web Server Running on Non-Windows Platform
Since Casper eRegister can exist on a separate Windows computer, you have the option to implement the previously discussed solutions. The web server can directly communicate with the Casper server to get serial numbers.
Summary
To implement these modified solutions, you must have the ability to modify your eCommerce system's code so that it can retrieve activation information (i.e., serial numbers). Casper eRegister must also be installed on a computer in your organization.
One key feature of Casper eRegister is that it's easy to install and manage, and it can function independently of your current eCommerce system. CrypKey helps you visualize and implement solutions that meet your unique requirements. We also design and build custom components that bridge the gap between Casper and your existing application.

CrypKey Protects .NET EXEs and DLLs
CrypKey 6.5 gives you the ability to protect and license .NET executable (EXE) and dynamic link library (DLL) files in combination. The process, called DotNetJoiner, merges all DLLs into the calling executable. This allows you to distribute one EXE protected with CrypKey 6.5. The EXE and DLL combination protection involves some simple manual steps. The final exe is no longer a .NET executable; it is now a standard, binary EXE. The DLLs are merged into an output exe and do not need to be distributed separately as a DLL.
Note: Standalone .NET DLL protection is not supported at this time.
For more information and a detailed description of the simple manual steps involved for the DotNetJoiner process, please contact us at support@CrypKey.com or call us at 403.258.6274, and press Option 2. We look forward to hearing from you!

Product Feature: Trial Licensing
Easy, secure, trial licensing is a top priority of software developers when choosing an effective copy protection solution. CrypKey offers many attractive, customizable licensing features, including EasyLicense, eTransfer, and Floating License. Trial Licensing is another CrypKey feature that gives prospective customers the opportunity to test drive your software in a secure, hassle-free environment.
CrypKey's Trial Licensing feature lets you distribute secure trial versions of your product strictly for evaluation purposes. It lets you control how the trial version operates and makes it simple for your customers to use. If a prospect wants to continue using the software, CrypKey ensures that payment occurs before continued, full authorization is granted.
While all of our competitors claim to have a method for allowing trial versions, not all solutions are created equal. Many copy protection applications impose frustrating restrictions on your customers—and that can contribute to loss of sales and missed opportunities. It's important to do your research to ensure that you're investing in a solution that supports both the technical backbone of your software and the sales objectives of your company.
