CrypKey Licenses To Work With .Net Platforms
We are pleased to announce that CrypKey 7.0 will allow true encryption of .NET assemblies. Previously, programmers could use the DLL, COM object, or .NET assembly from CrypKey SDK to implement CrypKey features. CrypKey 7.0 will add a new layer of protection to this.
Current market solutions (obfuscators) try to hide the source code through various measures, but ultimately leave the MSIL source code potentially exposed. Even inexperienced unauthorized users could drill down to the CIL/MSIL, modify jump points to by-pass security functions, and then re-assemble a new version of a .NET application. With CrypKey 7.0, the CIL/MSIL is not exposed, providing a real solution to developers.
CrypKey 7.0, expected to launch in June 2005, will incorporate .NET features. With this version, all of CrypKey's technological features, including CrypKey Stealth, should work effectively on .NET programs.
Our .NET prototype solution was tested successfully on various current applications. As such, we plan to integrate it with CrypKey Instant and CrypKey SDK to offer the same level of security on .NET programs that CrypKey currently provides on normal executable files.

To compensate our valued customers for the delay in our new release, we are giving all customers an instant rebate of $300 USD when purchasing any new CrypKey license with a 12-month Platinum, Gold or Silver Annual Subscription during the month of May 2005. Protecting Device Drivers

If you need this kind of protection, please let us know and we will attempt to assist you.
How CrypKey Customers Use USBKey
CrypKey USBKey, the car key-sized USB flash drive license management solution, can be used in a variety of ways to assist you. Below are just a few examples of ways our customers have incorporated CrypKey USBKey into their software protection efforts.
- Executive Training
Who: An executive training company made significant investments to create PowerPoint data files. The company hoped to give these files to its clients during training but also prevent them from being illegally copied everywhere.
The Solution: Using CrypKey software, the data files were encrypted and bound to USB keys. All copies of the data files remained accounted for because they could not be used without the USBKey. As an added bonus, all three USBKeys were prepared so that they will be immediately usable on any computer, with no installation time or space wasted.
- Commercially Marketed Help Files
Who: A company developed some informative Help files, and wished to sell them online. They needed to make sure the files could not be easily copied and distributed for free using the Internet.
The Solution: Using CrypKey, the Help files were encrypted and set up to be automatically unlocked after payment, using Casper, CrypKey's automated protection system.
- Medical Company Image Files
Who: A medical company wished to distribute medical images to patients but wanted to ensure patient privacy. They had the source for the application used to view the file, however, adding encryption to the program would have involved a very costly rewrite.
Solution: CrypKey password-encrypted the file, and externally applied them to their application. As a result, the system recognized encrypted files and prompted for a password to unencrypt them. This work was implemented without any source code change to the original application.
Annual Subscription Renewal Reminder
A reminder to all our customers to please update your CrypKey Annual Subscription to take advantage of new product releases to come throughout the remainder of 2005.
Please note that effective April 30, 2005, customers that have let their annual subscription lapse will be required to re-license CrypKey software at prevailing rates. Don't miss out on the new product releases to come!
All Full-Featured Copy Protections Are Not Alike (continued from previous issue...)
In our previous issue, we explained the results of a recent survey of 100 software developers that revealed that their top five (5) preferences when selecting a software security solution are:
- basic security
- ease of use
- customer confidence
- customized features
- simplified pricing
This article will detail developers' preference for products provide customized features.
Developer Preference # 4: Customized Features
CrypKey provides customizable EasyLicense, eTransfer, Trial Licensing and Floating License features to ensure you can manage control over how your application looks and functions, and stop unauthorized use of your software in a hassle-free, appealing manner. CrypKey software copy protection solutions allow you to:
- offer secure trial licenses to allow prospects to evaluate your software
- integrate attractive license control options that help you minimize support without losing control
- easily offer custom options to each customer
- provide your customers with unique features that make working with your software easier and more appealing
- empower your marketing efforts with specific tools that help your prospects during their evaluation; and
- make the process easy to do and simple to customize the exact look and feel you want.
Among CrypKey customized features are: 1. License Management; 2. Trial Licensing; and 3. Network License Management. These customized features are described below.
1. License Management. This feature provides customers with secure selected capabilities without any intervention required by the software developer.
The most common requests from developers are: a way to allow end-users to back up and restore their system and a secure process to transfer the license between systems for a single user (e.g. office and home PC's). Few products rival the flexibility, control and ease of use provided with CrypKey license management features.
- CrypKey License Management. CrypKey's license management capabilities include the EasyLicense and eTransfer features.
- EasyLicense is for developers who need the simplest possible form of copy protection or who have an application which runs on a particular computer only. If enabled, CrypKey's EasyLicense allows end-users to back up and restore the software on the same system (the same hard drive) at their convenience and without any necessary intervention or support required from the developer.
- eTransfer allows an end-user with a paid, authorized license to transfer the license using any form of media (floppy, CD, USB, etc.). The end-user assumes this is a feature of your particular application and is unaware that it is empowered by the copy protection. With this feature, when a license is transferred from any system onto the media of their choice, it disables the software on that system, ensuring there is only one active user of your software at any given time. eTransfer is the industry's first secure solution that allows end-users to transfer their license between any two machines, anywhere on the Internet. It prevents transferring the license to multiple systems for unauthorized users.
2. Trial Licensing. This feature provides the ability to give prospects a secure trial license to evaluate their software.
- CrypKey trial licensing With CrypKey trial licensing, secure trial versions of your products can be provided to prospective customers for their evaluation purposes.
While all products claim to allow trials, some give you much greater control and provide your customer with many more attractive options that will help you sell your application(s). Others will leave you and your customers with frustrating restrictions that might contribute to losing sales and profits. CrypKey's trial licensing feature will permit you to control the way the trial works, make it simple for your prospect to use, and ensure that your prospect will eventually buy the product if they choose to continue using it.
3. Network License Management. This feature enables customers to securely control multiple, concurrent users anywhere across their networks.
- CrypKey Network License Management. CrypKey Network License Management. Many software copy protection solutions do not support any type of network implementations. Those that do are most often restricted to server-based software installations.
CrypKey's "floating license" feature provides a simple and secure process for your customers' system administrators to permit use of your network application by an established number of authorized concurrent end-users, anywhere on their network.
