CrypKey
(Canada) Inc. Announces CrypKey SDK 7 Release
Calgary, Alberta
– After much anticipation, CrypKey (Canada) Inc. today announced
the release of CrypKey SDK 7. In addition to its many improved features
and functionality, this latest version marks a major advancement in
licensing technology.
CrypKey SDK supports
true client/server network licensing. In the past, CrypKey protected
software from unauthorized use by licensing the computer that application
was installed on. Today, CrypKey is designed to license an entire network.
A software license can now be shared with any computer on a network
without needing a shared drive. This means that a client can use an
application anywhere on a network without needing to know where the
license is stored.
CrypKey SDK’s
expanded technology platform has not compromised its friendly, front-end
usability. CrypKey is simpler to implement and use than ever before.
Developers who used CrypKey’s previous network licensing in their
applications will not need to change their existing code when upgrading
to version 7.
“This version has been a long time coming”, explains CrypKey
CEO, Jim McCartney. “We sincerely appreciate the patience and
support of our customers, and know that they will be as excited as we
are about the licensing power and flexibility CrypKey SDK.”
Some of the other leading innovations of CrypKey 7 include:
| • |
an
application can act as either a license server or a license client
with little or no programming |
| • |
automatic restart
of servers upon reboot |
| • |
support for
an unlimited number of redundant servers |
| • |
unprecedented
control and flexibility of the license server; in addition to number
of network seats, CrypKey has added the ability to specify domains,
computers, and users that can or cannot use a particular license |
| • |
the license
client is not required to connect to a server’s drive or know
where the license resides on the network; a priority list of servers
to check when searching for a license can also be set |
The new Enhanced License Transfer feature of CrypKey SDK is designed
to give customers a library-type model of “check-in and check-out”
license usage. A user can now temporarily check out a license when the
software is needed and then return it to the pool when the application
is no longer required. CrypKey SDK also provides the only licensing
system that allows a license to be migrated to a computer where no license
existed before. License transfers can be initiated anywhere on the network.
The ability to migrate
a license in and out of a license pool has many end user benefits. It
is useful in situations such as when:
| • |
an
employee wants to take a license home and then bring it back to
the office the next day |
| • |
an information
systems (IS) department wants to check out licenses to employees
for a particular project and then return the licenses to the pool
after the work is complete |
| • |
a field employee
needs to take a license on a laptop to a remote job location and
then return the license upon the job completion |
