Preference #4: Customized Features

Software developers provided us with their recommendations on important characteristics and features that you can examine to compare alternative solutions. Three key features developers indicated are required for effective copy protection include:

  1. license management;
  2. secure trial licensing; and
  3. network license management capabilities.
CrypKey provides customizable EasyLicense, eTransfer, Trial Licensing and Floating License features to ensure you can manage control over how your application looks and functions, and stop unauthorized use of your software in a hassle-free, appealing manner. Review the list of CrypKey customized features below and simple questions you can ask to ensure you know what to expect and get what you want.

CrypKey Customized Features

Our software copy protection solutions give you control and allow you to:

  • offer secure trial licenses to allow prospects to evaluate your software;
  • integrate attractive license control options that help you minimize support without losing control;
  • easily offer custom options to each customer;
  • provide your customers with unique features that make working with your software easier and more appealing;
  • empower your marketing efforts with specific tools that help your prospects during their evaluation; and
  • make the process easy to do and simple to customize the exact look and feel you want.

Individual Features

1. License Management. This feature provides customers with secure selected capabilities without any intervention required by the software developer. Very few products rival the flexibility, control and ease of use provided with CrypKey license management features. The most common requests from developers are:

  • a way to allow end-users to back up and restore their system; and
  • a secure process to transfer the license between systems for a single user (e.g. office and home PC’s).

CrypKey’s license management capabilities include the EasyLicense and eTransfer features.

EasyLicense. For developers that need the simplest possible form of copy protection or have an application which runs on a particular computer only. More info

eTransfer. Allows an end-user with a paid, authorized license to transfer the license using any form of media (floppy, CD, USB, etc.). The end-user assumes this is a feature of your particular application and is unaware that it is empowered by the copy protection. More info

2. Trial Licensing. This feature provides the ability to give prospects a secure trial license to evaluate their software.

With CrypKey trial licensing, you can provide secure trial versions of your products to prospective customers for their evaluation purposes. You want to be able to control the way the trial works, and to make it simple for your prospect…but also ensure that eventually they will buy the product if they choose to continue using it. While all products claim to allow trials, some that give you much greater control and provide your customer with many more attractive options that will help you sell your application(s). Others will leave you and your customers with frustrating restrictions that might contribute to losing sales and profits.

3. Network License Management. This feature enables customers to securely control multiple, concurrent users anywhere across their networks.

CrypKey’s “floating license” feature provides a simple and secure process for your customers’ system administrators to permit use of your network application by an established number of authorized concurrent end-users, anywhere on their network. Many software copy protection solutions do not support any type of network implementations. Those that do are most often restricted to server-based software installations only.
