Top 5 Developer Preferences #1

All "Full Featured" Copy Protection Products Are Not Alike

Preference #1: Basic Security

What Software Developers Must Know To Protect Their Investment

Software developers currently looking at or already using software copy protection tools rated doing everything possible to prevent or deter unauthorized use of their applications as their number one priority. In our survey of 100 independent software developers using various copy protection solutions, they identified the following four (4) primary security risks:

  1. Reverse Engineering. This entails having the security essentially stripped off your application, leaving your software code fully exposed and available.
  2. Creation of Illegal Key Generators. Reverse engineering enables others to create tools to generate working license keys for your applications without your knowledge or permission.
  3. Debugging, Patching and Memory Dumping. These are common tactics using many of the same, increasingly powerful tools developers themselves use to work around the security.
  4. Hard Drive Cloning. This involves copying or ghosting entire hard drives to duplicate authorized software.

Every Developer Needs To Understand These Primary Security Risks

For companies that don’t believe they need a high level of anti-piracy security, it only takes one person to remove whatever copy protection is being used, giving everyone on the Internet potential access to free unauthorized use of their software. If the copy protection currently used can be stripped away and discarded, the time and money invested in it has no value. The developers surveyed indicated that a high quality software copy protection solution should:

  • provide effective security that makes it difficult for anyone to have unauthorized access to your software without making it difficult for your honest, paying customers;
  • include adequate protection and still be reasonably simple to use - for both you and your customers;
  • enable you to confidently distribute secure trial versions of your software electronically; and
  • provide a complete feature set that makes trying your software easier and more appealing to prospective paying customers.

Recognizing that no security is absolutely 100% secure over an unlimited period of time; and that not all software developers need the same level of near bulletproof security for each of their applications, CrypKey solutions focus on customized solutions to help meet individual needs.

CrypKey has developed a series of industry-leading, proprietary technologies to combat primary security attacks. Since 1992, we have been developing technologies that make it extremely difficult to penetrate their defenses and gain access to protected applications. CrypKey Instant and CrypKey SDK contain unsurpassed security capabilities while offering control, flexibility and ease of use matching any competitive products available. CrypKey solutions incorporate several anti-piracy technologies including StealthPlus, CloneBuster, Dynamic Multi-Key Encryption, Easy License and CrypWrap.
